RECOMMENDED ARCHITECTURE

Block the tube, find its actual local axis, then release the cut

The improved concept keeps the formed tube stationary in a P/N-specific zero-point nest. A common multi-axis measurement and trimming head approaches both ends, measures the actual tube condition relative to the fixture coordinate system, calculates the released cut plane and trims without re-clamping the part.

01 · LOCATEKinematic blocking nest

Seat approved tube sections on replaceable non-marking blocks. Do not pull the whole tube into nominal shape.

02 · RETAINLow-force compliant clamps

Clamps hold the seated tube only; they are not used as measurement datums.

03 · ACQUIRELocal-axis and end-face scan

Probe or laser-scan a short straight section and the raw end face to establish actual position and direction.

04 · CALCULATEAdaptive cut plane

Compare the measured condition with the approved final geometry and calculate the material to remove.

05 · TRIMCommon five-axis head

Align normal to the measured local axis and trim End A, then End B, using one flexible machine platform.

06 · VERIFYPost-cut check and record

Re-measure the finished end, apply PASS / HOLD logic and save the traceability record.

Simpler alternative: fixed probe + fixed cutter

  • Lower initial cost for a stable, repetitive end orientation.
  • Requires more P/N-specific hardware and adjustment.
  • Less flexible where the local tube axis or end position varies significantly.
  • Should be used only after process capability is confirmed.
